These beautiful and tasty Porcini were collected in Northern Italy by the seller, who is passionate about wild mushrooms. Primarily from the Alta Valtellina in Lombardy, some were harvested in the Independent Province of Trento and the Veneto Region.
They were prepared by hand, hand sliced, and slowly dehydrated in small batches to a residual water content of 10 - 12%, by weight, meeting or exceeding the Italian legal requirement of 12 - 14%. This minimizes the risk of degradation over the 12 month stipulated "shelf life" after packaging. Of course, we suggest that you enjoy them right away, and order some more when you run out!
These are the same dried Porcini that the seller eats at home in both the USA and Italy, and that he gives to friends at Christmas and other festive occasions. Fortunately, over the years he has become better at finding the elusive Porcini, and can now offer some of them to you.
About Porcini:
Italian Porcini may contain some or all of the four Boletus species in the Boletus edulis group:
Boletus edulis
Boletus aestivalis
Boletus aereus
Boletus pinophilus.
Our Porcini are primarily Boletus edulis, with the occasional Boletus aestivalis or Boletus pinophilus. Boletus aereus grow in the more temperate areas of Italy, rather than the northern alpine areas, and therefore, are not in our Porcini.
While certification of mushrooms put into commerce is required in Italy, there is no such requirement in the United States. All of our mushrooms have been certified by an Italian Mycologist.
About Shipping:
Our Porcini will be shipped for FREE with USPS First Class Package (Domestic) or can be upgraded to USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate (Domestic).
We cannot ship to addresses not served by USPS Priority Mail (Domestic).
About Returns:
We don't accept returns due to the fact that we cannot offer wild mushrooms to another client, or even eat them ourselves, after they have been out of our hands.
However, we are very interested in learning about any problem you might encounter with our wild mushrooms, and will do our best to find a solution, and to prevent future occurrences. If you have questions or a problem, please take some clear, high-resolution photos with your phone, and email them to us.
